After Gears of War came out? More like after Fortnite came out, yea I suppose the Unreal stuff wasn't that much in focus before but Fortnite's success essentially killed the series.
And Gears of War could be counted as Unreal canon/spinoff. Why? It takes place on a bit of an isolated part of the universe, started as Unreal Warfare, which had its early assets reused into ut2003 bonuspack and ut2004 content, to the point of ut2004 into showing cog logo on the dropship. Maybe adding pages about the cancelled unreal games would be good too or even all of them, as cut content is practically in all including ut2004.
Several levels like ons primeval, some bonuspack city levels, as junkyard as convoy were based on parts of unreal warfare maps.
Some levels like dm junkyard and dom junkyard were practically identical to the warfare counterpart with minimum changes. There is no full warfare build out there but a demo from early 2003 did leak out with the source code leaks. And a later late 2004 version too on early uengine 3.
Then we have the ut addon pack by digitalo which wasn't supposed to be bonus pack 5 like I read on some sites, it was a standalone addon just like quake 3 team arena, a bigger addon. Then turned into Unreal Devastation with the UT: Devastation being a working title for the addon phase. After both phases got cancelled it got turned into a standalone game having its unreal game roots still being obvious but published by a different and cheaper publisher than infogrames. The game Devastation can still be seen as a prequel to Unreal games and includes a reference to Liandri.
Its also possible that the DE headed commercial flops Pariah and Warpath started as spinoffs of Unreal Warfare which was seen as a game that would come out. But in the end it was more of a star trek phase II deal.
Unlike devastation and gears there isn't a direct confirmation or link but its obvious looking at features of the game, the shroud are practically the same as the geist used to be circa 2002 which is when the developement on Pariah and UT Avaris started. Avaris turned into Championship 2 which had seen a recent pc version/beta leak. And warpath's ctf flags etc are basically the same as avaris, as in all those links and similarities are striking. Warpath being like a obscure spinoff of a spinoff of a spinoff. Ment to be sequel to Pariah but kinda severed the links after the game flopped. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Leo TCK (talk • contribs)
