Squaresoft was the US subsidiary of Square. They were responsible for the localization and publishing of Square's games on Nintendo systems and later localization and QA testing for their games on the PlayStation, leaving the publishing to SCEA through a publishing deal and later Square EA through a joint venture with Electronic Arts. They also developed a game, Secret of Evermore, for the SNES, published Capcom's Breath of Fire, and localized Wild Arms 3 for SCEA.

Upon the merger of Square and Enix in 2003, Square EA was folded into Squaresoft, which subsequently became Square Enix USA.
