The Epoch Cassette Vision, released by Epoch in 1981, is notable for being the first video game system released in Japan to use interchangeable cartridges. A cost-reduced redesign (the Epoch Cassette Vision Jr.) was released in 1983.

The system was initially a bestseller, but despite Epoch's efforts the Famicom (which launched just a few days before the Cassette Vision Jr.'s release) soon swept Japan and quickly overtook its competition. Epoch would release a successor system in 1984 and moved on from the original Cassette Vision, discontinuing the system that August.
