Take Devilman, Mazinger Z, and a bunch of other Go Nagai manga mainstays, make them all tiny and cute, put them in a blender, and you might get CB Chara Wars: Ushinawareta Gag. Maybe.

Debug Mode

At the title screen, enter the cheat code Left, Y, Right, A, L, X, B, R. Alternatively, at any point during the intro or title screen, enable Pro Action Replay code 7E1E8501 to gain access to the debug mode, then disable the code once the menu appears.

Screen Check

"Screen check" leads to this screen, which lets you preview all the areas in the game. A, B, X, and Y cycle through areas, while Start returns to the menu.

Object Check

Pattern Check

Possibly a viewer for level graphics, although it always seems to display the same two or three different tiles. Y and X change "O-NO" (object number), B and A change "P-NO" (position number?), L and R change the palette, and Start returns to the menu.

Bank Check

Cbchara-bankcheck.png

A viewer for sprite graphics. Y and X change "O-NO" (object number), B and A change "B-NO" (bank number), L and R change the palette, and Start returns to the menu.

Sound Check

Finally, the obligatory sound test. Y and X change the song number, R plays the chosen music, and L stops it.
