This is a sub-page of Development:Pokémon Red and Blue.
A number of scrapped background music, sound effects, and Pokémon cries were found within the Blue, Yellow, and Gold and Silver source files. Namely, the latter has them in a folder named SOUND, which contains the original source files for the Red and Blue tracks.
Blue & Yellow Source Files
Plenty of tracks included with the source code have commented out data.
Song Title | Filename | Restored data | Used data | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Opening Movie | M_START.DMG | A portion of the theme was cut due to timing issues. The final Indigo Plateau theme appears to be based on this version of the song. | ||
Professor Oak's Laboratory | M_LABO.MUS | A second loop is manually inserted for both square channels, which ends with a stop command. | ||
Victory! (Wild Pokémon) | M_VIC2.DMG | The bass before the key change was slightly changed. | ||
Fanfare: Item Obtained (Version 1) | M_FAN1.DMG | The ending was shortened in the used version. | ||
Pokémon Healed | M_ASA.DMG | According to the comments that accompany it, this theme used to be the healing sound at one point in development. It uses the start of the Pallet Town motif. | ||
A Trainer Appears (Boy Version) | M_DEAL3.DMG | Has a slightly different loop. | ||
Fanfare: Professor Oak's Evaluation | M_FAN3.DMG | Has a much slower tempo. | ||
Victory! (Gym Leader Battle) | M_VIC3.DMG | The intro was extended in the final version. | ||
A Trainer Appears (Girl Version) | M_DEAL2.DMG | Features a more basic bassline. | ||
Fuchsia City Theme | M_TOWN2.DMG | The intro was shortened in the final version. | ||
Celadon City Theme | M_TOWN3.DMG | The intro was changed in the final version. | ||
The Final Road | M_FIELD5.DMG | Has a slightly different loop. |
Unused Cry Base
Appears to be an early version of the base eventually used for Spearow and Farfetch'd, and possibly Pidgey too according to a commented and unused line of cry parameters. The version played here is Spearow's, which uses the default cry parameters.
Gold & Silver Source Files
Filename | Raw Audio | Restored Audio | Description |
---|---|---|---|
DIGDA01.MUS | Given how "Digda" is Diglett's Japanese name, this theme was likely intended for Diglett's Cave. | ||
ENDING01.MUS | An early rendition of the credits theme that is likely to be a simple sketch. | ||
FANFARE2.MUS | An older version of the Key Item fanfare used in Generation II. Interestingly, it's similar to one of the stage clear jingles from the NES Yoshi, another Game Freak title.
Unlike the rest of these tracks, this is included in the Generation I source code as | ||
FANFARE7.MUS | A rearranged version of this fanfare was left in the Space World '97 demo of Gold and Silver, its final releases, and Crystal. | ||
FANFARE9.MUS | A rearranged version of this fanfare was left in the Space World '97 demo of Gold and Silver, its final releases, and Crystal. | ||
FIELD6.MUS | A different arrangement of "Road to Cerulean City: Leaving Mt. Moon." | ||
HOME0231.MUS | A slightly earlier version of "Professor Oak's Laboratory." Stops after two loops. The file is partially corrupted, so what isn't present doesn't play. | ||
KINCHO01.MUS | The word "Kinchou" (きんちょう) is ambiguous without kanji, but would be most commonly understood as meaning "tension" or "anxiety." The music seems to fit that mood indeed. Another possible meaning is "bird". | ||
KOUKAN.MUS | A merged version of the unused trading song. It is split into two different songs in the final version. | ||
OHKIDO03.MUS | A sketch of "Professor Oak." | ||
VIC011.MUS | A rougher version of "Victory! (Gym Leader Battle)". This actually matches the tempo of the remix heard in the Gen III games and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. | ||
VIC012.MUS | A completely unused victory theme. May be an early version of VICTORY4.MUS. | ||
VIC013.MUS | An unused variant of "Victory! (Trainer Battle)". Bears heavy resemblance to Guide. | ||
VIC014.MUS | A rougher version of the Trainer victory theme. Like "Victory! (Gym Leader Battle)", this is in the same tempo as its Gen III and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire remix. | ||
VIC021.MUS | An unused and likely unfinished version of "Victory! (Wild Pokémon)". | ||
VICTORY4.MUS | Another unused variant of "Victory! (Trainer Battle)". Was later rearranged for Stadium 2 as a victory theme, and was used without the opening jingle as the theme for Mt. Moon Square in Generation II. |
