Humor

(Moved from the main user page) While I find the loose humor in this website a bit offsetting for a wiki, I also cannot help but find it a bit original. So I'm normally undecided if that non-formal piece of text should be there or not... Other than that, I'm very interested in hidden things in video games. It's so interesting to read about stuff that's been under your nose since the moment you turned on the console, but you never knew because it was cut from the game. I hope this wiki becomes a great source of information.

The humor and looseness is something that the original developers of this wiki (i.e. myself, BMF54123 and RahanAkero) all liked, because most wikis out there are written to be as bland and boring as possible. We're very non-formal in writing, and that's fine; the only thing we want is that actual unused content is described clearly and understandably. --Xk-sig.png Xkeeper (talk) 12:30, 25 April 2011 (EDT)
Eh, understood! Basically what I had in mind: keeping it humorous, without looking like a joke. {EspyoT} 19:45, 25 April 2011 (EDT)

Friendly neighborhood admin note

Hey there! How's it going? I'm just poking my head in to leave a little note. A couple of your edits on YK's user page come off as a little confrontational. I understand that 1: Our reasons for almost entirely avoiding Greek letters are unstated, and 2: you aren't fully comfortable with our formatting, so let me take a second to just do some explaining.

1: We try not to use the words "alpha" or "beta" because, nine times out of ten, we don't know what stage of development the prototype in question (or the prototypical element in a game) comes from. To use such terms without the actual build date and version number at hand is, to be frank, purely arbitrary. So, when someone finds "beta graphics" in a game, this tends to rub us the wrong way, so to speak. Unused, yes. Early? Certainly. Beta? Maybe not.

2: We don't have a sloppy, unorganized, ugly wiki. We have some sloppy, unorganized, ugly pages, but that's why we have

SOMETIMES I SEE A TEXT BOX AND I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSSDFGFFDHFGDJGGFSHGDFH
This page sucks.
If you could make it suck less, that would be awesome.
Specifically: This template right here.

Now, is not-italicizing the title to a game going to make its page worthy of that category? Not at all. Hell, some great pages like Super Mario Galaxy don't have the title in the opening blurb at all. It really depends on the writer.

As Xk said, we are very casual here -- we want the wiki to be readable in an engaging, fun way. Like tvtropes, stylistically. As long as the content is presented in such a way that it is clear and easy to understand -- and is documented as thoroughly as possible -- then I don't care if the intro paragraph says "hurr is the durrpiest game ever to herp." As long as you explain later on in great detail that "at address 0xB33FC0DE, there is unused text explaining how to herp so hard that you derp," then the page is acceptable.

I hope this has been constructive and helpful. Remember, we're all (ideally) friends here! Have fun, and good luck discovering new things! --RahanAkero 21:13, 29 April 2011 (EDT)

For the record, I'm actually all for having italicized game titles. Just only try to add them if you're actually updating something else in the page; having 100+ "minor italics fix" edits on Recent Changes kind of blows. We've needed a style guide for a long time, but unfortunately we've been really busy to the point of being unable to do it. --Xk-sig.png Xkeeper (talk) 16:33, 3 May 2011 (EDT)

Alright.

I understand your frustration, but there's no reason to drag the drama unnecessarily into other articles. Just let the admins resolve this and we can all go on our merry ways after. This too shall pass. Rick 11:13, 10 November 2011 (EST)

I was trying to take action. You know, help. I care about the state of this wiki and its community. I'm not saying the admins aren't, though. {EspyoT} 12:13, 10 November 2011 (EST)

This is what we have; it looks like someone changed EU to AU for some reason :| What is yours and what country in Europe is it from? Ugh, European boxes (and thus ROMs) are (going to be) a pain... - Andlabs 09:03, 12 April 2012 (EDT)

Multi-Upload

When uploading tons of files with the same tags in the future, could you please use the Multiple Upload form so you don't flood Recent Changes/the IRC channel? --BMF54123 16:43, 5 September 2012 (EDT)

Very well. I was gonna go with that originally, but I figured it'd be better, since I wouldn't have to rename files. I imagined there'd be no drawback, but eventually forgot about the recent changes. Also, I didn't knew about IRC warnings. But don't worry, I'll use it next time. {EspyoT} 16:51, 5 September 2012 (EDT)

LOZ: Skyward Sword Hidden Chest Video

I was browsing through the Skyward Sword talk page and noticed you mentioning something about me not posting the code on [THIS](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i2VH1OGRpk). Anyways, I added it. Sorry for doing it three months late though.

For future reference, if you would like any changes to my videos, just let me know in the comments. I'm always happy to help TCRF. :) Robotortoise 05:42, 5 July 2013 (EDT)

Oh, I thought I HAD posted that notice on the video's comments! It's weird, because I tend to do so. I mean, come on, it makes the most sense to talk directly to the uploader about the code, right? Guess I forgot this time. Well, thanks! People'll use this code to search for more hidden goodies! It's gonna be great! {EspyoT} 07:03, 5 July 2013 (EDT)

Yeah, that code is like the ultimate for finding hidden content. There's also an iteration for TP, I think. Robotortoise 04:19, 6 July 2013 (EDT)

Porcino

Hi, Espyo! Sorry to bother you again, but I'm wondering if I could possibly ask you to communicate this message to Porcino:

  1. PNG images only.
  2. Don't convert JPG screenshots to PNG. Screenshots should be taken in PNG, using the emulator's screenshot function at the game's native resolution.
  3. Instead of adding information directly to articles, please add your information to the article's talk page. Then, we can fix the English before adding it to the article.
  4. Please write on the talk pages in Portuguese, and add an English translation underneath. (Like this.) Sometimes, it's hard to understand your English, so it's difficult to rewrite and fix errors when I don't know what you're trying to say. It would help if I knew what you wanted to say in Portuguese.

You already translated some of this information for him, but he's still having trouble with breaking the rules!

--GlitterBerri (talk) 19:21, 14 January 2014 (EST)

Will do! And no worries, I'm always up to help when needed. {EspyoT} 20:44, 14 January 2014 (EST)
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. Hopefully that will do the trick! --GlitterBerri (talk) 23:29, 14 January 2014 (EST)

--Porcino (talk) 14:11, 18 January 2014 (EST)

Olá. Antes de traduzir, tenho só que apontar que nas páginas de utilizador só vai conteúdo sobre o utilizador. Tudo o que seja discussão entre dois membros via para as páginas de discussão. Aqui vai a minha tradução:
    • mp04t8.map
    • It's a (...?) map, incomplete and with a few graphical glitches, featuring several buildings not seen in the final game. The roads are incomplete, and the wooden bridges have bits of concrete road.
    • mp07t4.map
    • A (...?) map, similar to map mp04t8.map, in the way that it was made, with the same graphical problems on the incomplete roads and wooden bridge. It's possible that these wooden bridges were once concrete.
    • mp24t2.map
    • Similar to the (...?) map 24du.map, but the bridges start off destroyed, and off to the south there are some bases ready to be captured by engineers. It has an Ore Purifier Civil, making it impossible to capture with an engineer.
    • mp28u4.map
    • An incomplete urban map, it contains several objects not seen in the final game. It includes lines of bits of the pentagon. Maybe their objects were another type of building other than the pentagon.
    • mp29u4.map
    • Urban map, with some unused buildings, several blue cars and trucks, building sites with their own lighting, and a different AI system.
    • mp30s8.map
    • Incomplete snow map. No trees, no buildings, and no mines. It is similar to map mp30s6.map and mp30mw.map, which is used in the game, despite having some differences.
{EspyoT} 08:29, 19 January 2014 (EST)

How to use wwdumpsnd to dump .aw files from Pikmin 2

Hello, I was wondering how you were able to extract .wav files from the .aw files of Pikmin 2 using wwdumpsnd. I've attempted running wwdumpsnd various times, with all of the .aw's in the same directory, but nothing comes out. I have also tried putting JaiInit.aaf in the same folder, which didn't help either. I'd really love to have the Pikmin 2 sound effects for various purposes, and your help would be appreciated! --Ymmot392 (talk) 20:50, 24 June 2014 (EDT)

Strange, I tried exporting them again, but couldn't. These audio samples were extracted over a year ago, and at the time, me (Windows) and Greenpickle from Pikipedia (Linux) were trying to get it to work. I think that when I exported successfully, somehow, I ended up with a huge .wav with all the sounds one after the other. GP managed to extract everything into neat .ogg files. At least, that I can recall. I'll get back to you tomorrow, after I ask him if he still remembers. As a last resort, I can always give you my .ogg files; I still have them lying around. {EspyoT} 21:03, 24 June 2014 (EDT) Moved conversation to my talk page, oops.
The only thing that kinda worked for me was using an .exe called dumpaw.exe, it created 9 .wav files from wScene_0, which had all of the sound effects divide among them, but whenever a sound effect is not present, there is a loud static noise. I've started cleaning up the loud static, but it is extremely tedious, and a better method would be a big time saver. If you could get back to me with what Greenpickle has to say, it'd be greatly appreciated! If not, if you could send the .oggs, that would be cool as well! Thank you for your response!

--Ymmot392 (talk) 21:15, 24 June 2014 (EDT)

Err, ignore my previous message; I got it to work now. I was trying with /AudioRes/Banks/wScene_1.aw, but wwdumpsnd didn't like that one. It works fine with wScene_0.aw. Here's what I did:
  1. I downloaded wwdumpsnd.
  2. Extracted it.
  3. Placed wScene_0.aw on the same folder as wwdumpsnd (used Dolphin to extract the files from the US version of the game).
  4. Placed /AudioRes/PSound.aaf on the same folder as wwdumpsnd.
  5. Renamed PSound.aaf to JaiInit.aaf (there are no L in that name, it's all uppercase and lowercase I; also, the program itself tells you to rename the file).
  6. Opened command line (somewhere on the start menu, open it in administrator mode if you can, to be extra sure).
  7. Wrote "cd <path to wwdumpsnd folder>".
  8. Finally, wrote "wwdumpsnd.exe".
I don't think it's possible to be more specific than that. If you follow these steps and it goes wrong, then the problem is elsewhere! (It's late here, so I hope these instructions will do until tomorrow.) {EspyoT} 21:21, 24 June 2014 (EDT)
I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly! Thank you so very much!

--Ymmot392 (talk) 02:45, 25 June 2014 (EDT)

Glad to help! I don't suppose you'll be needing the sound effects on the other .aw files, as those are just instruments, but if you need the "O-ri-ma!" and "Ro-oo-ie!" chants from 2-Player Battle (those are on another .aw which I'm assuming doesn't work with wwdumpsnd), I can always give you them. {EspyoT} 06:35, 25 June 2014 (EDT)
Yeah, I can only extract wScene_0-3.aw. I don't know how difficult it would be for you, but I am interested in looking at all of the files.

--Ymmot392 (talk) 17:08, 25 June 2014 (EDT)

Greenpickle says that you need ALL .aw files on the wwdumpsnd folder, i.e., you can't just have wScene_4.aw on the folder and expect it to extract. Let me know if it works for you. This probably explains why I couldn't extract wScene_1.aw... {EspyoT} 17:50, 25 June 2014 (EDT)
It worked! Thanks again!

--Ymmot392 (talk) 21:51, 25 June 2014 (EDT)

I'm having a bit of trouble with the last part of those instructions. (Hi, I'm a new user here!) After typing in "cd <path to wwdumpsnd folder>" into command line and hitting Enter, it tells me that the syntax of the command is incorrect. Is there something I'm missing here? I'm not familiar with typing in commands. --Bluekirby21 (talk) 07:48, 29 July 2014 (EDT)

Hey there! Hmm, that's weird, cd is pretty much failproof. Are you adding the quotes? Because if so, don't! The quotes I wrote in the talk are just to help cut off what the command is, they're not meant to be written when you're inserting the command. So this is right:
cd C:/abc
And this is wrong:
"cd C:/abc"
Good luck! {EspyoT} 08:05, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
No, I didn't type in the quotes. Am I supposed to use a "C:/" while doing this? I didn't do that before. --BlueKirby07 (talk) 08:37, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
Well yeah, if the folder is on the C:/ drive, you need to start "cd" with "C:/". If it's on any other drive, use that drive's letter instead. You can also press Tab to automatically complete and suggest folders. For instance, if your sounds are at "C:/Pik2sounds", you can type "C:/Pik2", press Tab, and it'll automatically fill stuff in. Fiddle around with this, and you'll find that navigating through the command line isn't too difficult. {EspyoT} 08:39, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
I'll see what I can do. I'm pretty sure the folder (the wwdumpsnd folder, I'm guessing? I've put in the files mentioned above in the instructions onto the folder.) is on the C:/ drive. If it gets nowhere or works, I'll get back to you. Thanks for your help! --BlueKirby07 (talk) 08:51, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
This still isn't working. It's telling me that "the system cannot find the path specified." Hmm, maybe it would help if I just explain all that I've done so far.
I'm using a Windows partition of my Mac computer. The Windows disk is the C:/ drive; I checked. I followed the instructions above as best as I could. I'll list my actions below.
1. I downloaded wwdumpsnd from this site, as it was the only place I could find that offered a download of it: http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=audio/rip/wwdumpsnd.lha; I used 7-zip to extract it, producing a folder named wwdumpsnd on my desktop, containing a folder named "source," a readme, and the wwdumpsnd application itself.
2. I used Dolphin to explore the files of a Pikmin 2 rom; I found the wScene_0.aw and PSound.aaf files and copied them out of the rom and placed them in the wwdumpsnd folder on the desktop, as said in the instructions.
3. I renamed the PSound.aaf file to Jailnit.aaf (what you said in the parentheses above confused me a little)
4. I opened Command Prompt, which I'm assuming is the command line program for Windows; it opens with the line C:\Users\Ashley> already present, and ready for command input. I'm assuming that the sounds that I want to hear (in the wScene_0.aw file) are in the wwdumpsnd folder. For starters, I typed in "cd C:/wwdumpsnd" at the end of the line already present and hit Enter, giving me the response I mentioned above. I tried other things, like saying "wwdumpsnd folder" with no luck, getting the same response. While pressing the Tab key, one of the fill-in options wasn't the wwdumpsnd folder. Either I'm still doing the command wrong, or the system just doesn't recognize the folder, for whatever reason. For all I know, one or more of the files or applications may be faulty. I have no idea.
That's what I've got so far. I hope this helps, and I'm sorry to fill up your talk page with a wall of text like this. --Bluekirby21 (talk) 09:39, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
No need to apologize, I'll try my best to help, and if the page gets too clogged, I'll just end up making an archive subpage. Also, I reworded the thing I wrote in the parenthesis regarding JaiInit.aaf. Anyway, I downloaded it from here, so maybe try this one. Step 2 is fine. Step 3, this is where the parenthesis thing is important: You wrote it like "JAIL"nit, and it should be "JAII"nit. You mixed up a lowercase L with an uppercase I, and that's why I wrote the thing in parenthesis. Rename it again to the correct name. On step 4, that "C:\Users\Ashley>" means that the command line is currently "located" on that folder. You said you placed wwdumpsnd and the Pikmin 2 files inside the wwdumpsnd folder, which in turn, is on the desktop, right? In that case, you need to use "cd" to navigate towards the folder in the desktop. To get to it, chances are you need to do "cd C:\Users\Ashley\Desktop\wwdumpsnd" (there are other ways, but let's not confuse stuff that's simple). Typing that should "place" the command line on the wwdumpsnd folder where the magic can happen. From there on out, just do the commands I wrote in the instructions. Oh, and remember that you need to extract ALL .aw files from Pikmin 2's Banks folder, or else the program does stuff wrong. Everything should work now. I'll also type a set of concise instructions on the Pikmin 2 Notes page, so that people who need instructions and troubleshooting don't have to read all of the things me, you and Ymmot discussed. Good luck, let me know how it goes! {EspyoT} 10:03, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
I redid the whole process using the download you provided and properly renamed the JaiInit.aaf file. And it worked! And it's awesome! A massive list of individual .wav sound files appeared in the wwdumpsnd folder, playable with Windows Media Player. Thank you so much for all your help! This Pikmin fanatic is very happy right now. --Bluekirby21 (talk) 10:40, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
My pleasure! Remember to make good use of them! There are a lot of juicy things in there. {EspyoT} 10:41, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
Well, I don't really plan on using them in or for anything other than my own insatiable curiosity. I'm just so curious about all the sounds that could be ripped from the game, sounds used in the game, and sounds unused (which I'm most interested in.) I'm one of those people who like to explore stuff from the game's data just for the sake of knowing it. Does that make any sense? --Bluekirby21 (talk) 10:49, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
Of course. A lot of people do it. But what I said still applies: make good use of it in the way that if you find something you can prove is unused, just add it to TCRF! It IS what the wiki is about, after all. If you want other people to help you check whether something's unused or not, discuss it on the Pikmin 2 talk page. {EspyoT} 10:51, 29 July 2014 (EDT)
Oh, ok. I'll keep that in mind. --Bluekirby21 (talk) 12:09, 29 July 2014 (EDT)

Hi, I'm a terrible human, and use a Mac - and so have had to install Parallels & Windows before I even begin. Now I have, and terrible things are happening, like in_vgmstream.dll not loading, and the JaiInit.aaf files (either found on the web, or renamed from the ISO) not working - frustration station! I'm after the "barrier knocked down success" sound - the trill that goes off when Pikmin have beaten down a barrier of some kind. Are you able to post that somewhere for me please? Or even can you put up the entire forest of SFX somewhere? Gratefully Selfish (talk) 00:01, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

Hey. Well, bad news, I checked the list, and it doesn't look like that exists. Quite simply because it must be generated in-game using the instruments – it's more of a song than a sound effect, so I can't find it there. I'd suggest looking around on YouTube to see if you can find it (probably with lower quality than a direct rip). Remember to try different search terms, like "Pikmin task complete", "Pikmin bridge finished", "Pikmin gate destroyed", etc. And another thing, if you can't get wwdumpsnd to work on a Mac, maybe you could try installing VirtualBox and running it there. It won't matter much, because you can't obtain the jingle from the sound effects alone, but if you need any other sound effects, that would be the best way for you. I could upload the entire set online somewhere, but every place sucks for hosting stuff larger than a text file. {EspyoT} 07:06, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

Hi, I want have pikmin sound (because pikmin's sound is so cute and I love Pikmin, I I grew with these small creatures) but wwdumpsnd failed to open JaiInit.aaf . I have followed instruction the file .aaf is named JaiInit.aaf, the folder Banks is in the forder who are wwdumpsnd.exe but on the command prompt, he failed to open the file. Here is the link of the capture http://imagesia.com/open-file-failed_tivk . I don't have a great english, but I hope that you understood my problem. Thank you in advance! --Porinu (talk) 08:53, 18 January 2015 (EST)

Hey there! I think I know what the problem is, judging from the screenshot. You are running the program just fine, except the command prompt thinks that the current directory (the folder you're "working" on) is C:\Windows\system32. So, it tries to find the .aaf file on that folder, and fails. You'll have to do cd C:\Users\Chaggy\Desktop\wwdumpsnd, so that the command prompt understands that that is the folder it should work on. From there, you can just type wwdumpsnd.exe and it should work, provided you followed the other instructions. Hope this helps! {EspyoT} 09:16, 18 January 2015 (EST)
Yes, That worked! Thank you very much ! I can now lisent my little pikmin! --Porinu (talk) 09:48, 18 January 2015 (EST)
No problem! Glad it worked. {EspyoT} 10:03, 18 January 2015 (EST)

Wrong link of Pikifen on Pikmin Fanon

Hi, in the second paragraph of your user page is a link to Pikifen on Pikmin Fanon. That link in the way it is does not work, and that is because it lacks a "wiki/" there.
Thus, instead of being "pikminfanon.com/Pikifen" it should be "pikminfanon.com/wiki/Pikifen".

Just pointing this out to you in any case. -Kirbeat (talk) 21:21, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

Oh, I didn't notice! This change happened when Pikmin Fanon switched hosts some months back. Thanks for the heads-up! {EspyoT} 21:23, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

Pikmin 3 E3 Kiosk Demo

Hello, recently I discovered the page on The Cutting Room Floor pertaining to Pikmin 3. There is a sub-page for it that involves the prototype for the game. More specifically, it involves the E3 2013 demo build. I was wondering if you happened to have any footage of this particular build. I could not find any on The Cutting Room Floor, nor anywhere else online. The link to the entry for reference (https://tcrf.net/Proto:Pikmin_3) --Polygonalpepperoni (talk) 18:58, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

Hey. Sorry, but I'm afraid I don't really know anything about the kiosk demo. {EspyoT} 19:31, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
I've updated the page to clarify which disc its from a bit. (The "81641: DISC, CAT-I PIKMIN 3 EVENTRTLCANUSA" one, which can be found for download on the web). --Hiccup (talk) 19:45, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
