7 Grand Dad
7 Grand Dad |
---|
Also known as: Primitive Mario 7 (CN) This game has unused graphics. |
7 Grand Dad is a rather infamous bootleg hack of The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino and Hoppy, with Fred Flintstone's in-game sprites edited to look like Mario.
Level Select
This needs some investigation. Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page. Specifically: Is the level selector related to the scene/level selection in the base game's debug menu? |
A surprisingly overlooked level select feature can be used by pressing Select on the title screen. It causes the number next to the 1992 copyright to go up by one until after 5. This has an effect on the level order on the map screen.
This cheat was not present in the original game. Notably, its text uses the last byte of the original game's Taito copyright, most of which was overwritten.
Unused Graphics
Mockup | In-Game |
---|---|
Present in the CHR ROM is an unused row of tiles for the rest of the right leg's knee of the Mario lookalike on the title screen (itself taken and modified from Dian Shi Ma Li). Above is a mockup of what it would look like if it were displayed correctly.
Unused Leftover Text
Present from F685-F701 is the copyright text from the original game's title screen. Notably, the text was modified to X-out the names, like what was done for Taito's mention in the credits: "THE JETSONS" became "THE XXXXXXX", "H-B PROD.,INC." (Hanna-Barbera) became "X-X PROD.,INC.", and "NINTENDO OF AMERICA" became "XXXXXXXX OF AMERICA".
Another more technical note is that most sequences of two bytes starting with 0x2 had their remaining bits overwritten with 0x0. This was likely a modification done by hand, which makes the Flintstones name not being crossed out curious. This can be seen on the title screen by removing the cartridge when it is powered on.
