...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

Unused Spawns

A number of unused spawns for Link still lurk in the data of Ocarina of Time.

Lon Lon Ranch

02AE

OoT-HF02AE.png

This unused spawn places Link in the middle of the Lon Lon Ranch corral.

Strangely, an entry for this spawn appears in the exit lists for several scene setups in Hyrule Field. See Unused Exit List Entries for more information.

02E2

OoT-HF02E2.png

This unused spawn places Link in the field at the far reaches of Lon Lon Ranch.

Once again, an entry for this spawn appears in the exit lists for several scene setups in Hyrule Field. See Unused Exit List Entries for more information.

02E6

This unused spawn places Link at the perimeter of Lon Lon Ranch.

Once again, an entry for this spawn appears in the exit lists for several scene setups in Hyrule Field. See Unused Exit List Entries for more information.

04CA

ZeldaOOT UnusedSpawn-04CA.png

This unused spawn places Link out of bounds, on a patch of solid ground that extends beyond the walls of Lon Lon Ranch. This area is completely inaccessible in regular gameplay. There is no entry for this spawn in any of the game's exit lists, leaving it entirely unreferenced.

Despite its similarity to unused spawns 04CE, 0558, and 055C, the coordinates of all four differ slightly.

Zora's Domain

Unreferenced Child Link Spawn - Facing the Corner

In Zora's Domain, there is a used spawn for Adult Link in the throne room that loads if Link fails a timed sequence during one of the trading quests. When he fails, Link goes back to the throne room and faces King Zora. However, there is also an unreferenced spawn that is very similar to this for young Link. When loaded, Link faces the elevated platform in the corner. While there is nothing there now, it's possible that King Zora or Princess Ruto once sat/stood there at one point during development. To load this spawn, replace the value in the Debug at the address 0xB9F9E5 with 034000 to be able to load it when you walk to Zora's Domain from Zora Fountain as young Link.

Zora's River

0199

OoT-Unused exit Zoras river.png

This unused spawn places Link at the top of the waterfall.

An entry for this spawn still appears in the exit lists for several scene setups in Zora's Fountain. See Unused Exit List Entries for more information.

It seems that, at one point in development, there wasn't a fence blocking off the waterfall in Zora's Fountain, and Link would have been able to jump from the falls to reach the river without backtracking through Zora's Domain. A video of this removed mechanic, as reconstructed by a fan, is viewable here.

Kokiri Forest

0x338

OoT Unused Spawn Kokiri Forest.png

This unused spawn appears in the regular gameplay scene setups and places Link at the top of his own house, the entrance table entry 0338 also still remains.

Twinrova's Lair

xxxx

OoT-Unused Spawn Twinrova's Lair.png

The index 01 Link spawn is unused. It's located roughly near where the "Nabooru" Iron Knuckle would be spawned. The coordinates for this spawn are identical across all scene setups that define it. Notably, the spawn does not exist in cutscene setup 2.

Ganon's Castle (Interior)

xxxx

OoT-Unused Ganon's Castle Forest Trial Spawn.png

This 9th unused spawn places Link at the doors in the Silver Rupee room in the Forest Trial of Ganon's Castle. No record on the entrance table leads directly to it. Voiding out doesn't use spawns which would make this spawn pointless.

Ganon's Castle (Crumbling)

xxxx

OoT-Unused Ganon's Castle (Crumbling) Spawn.png

This 2nd unused spawn places Link at the exit leading to Ganon's Castle. No record on the entrance table leads directly to it. It is not possible to re-enter Ganon's Castle after escaping it which causes this to be unused.

Removed Spawns

The game's entrance table reveals changes during development.

Shadow Temple

The entrance table includes entries for the Shadow Temple which use Link spawn indices 02 and 03. However, in the final game, the scene file for the Shadow Temple only defines two Link spawn indices: 00 and 01.

0x2B2

This unused entry would have used Link spawn index 01, which was most likely not the second player spawn point left in the final scene data and got removed from the scene. The final spawn index 01 would put Link on the other side of the boss door, which makes it likely that it was originally spawn index 02, which was intended to be used by the entrance table entry 0x2B6.

0x2B6

This entry is still used, but prevented by making it impossible to leave the boss rooms during normal gameplay. It would have used Link spawn index 02, which doesn't exist in the final scene data and causes the game to crash. The final spawn index 01 would put Link on the other side of the boss door, which makes it likely that it originally was spawn index 02.

It would continue to play the current BGM sequence, which all other entries for leaving the boss rooms do as well.

0x4EA

This unused entry would have used Link spawn index 03, which doesn't exist in the data of the scene file in the final game.

Unused Boss Exit Spawns

OoT-Unused Fire Temple Boss Exit Spawn.png
OoT-Unused Shadow Temple Boss Exit Spawn.png
OoT-Unused Spirit Temple Boss Exit Spawn.png
OoT-Unused Ganon's Tower Boss Exit Spawn.png

Because it's not possible to exit the boss rooms in the Adult Link dungeons, these following spawns go unused. Water Temple is oddly enough missing one and Shadow Temple's spawn is placed below floor level.
