...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

Unused Targets

There are a handful of unused targets, most of which are based on existing objects. All of these targets have dummied-out names and descriptions.

hasugitai_b

PR1-Obj-HASUGITAI B.gif PR1-Obj-HASUGITAI B 2.png

  • Source label: HASUGITAI_B
  • Field move: Gust 2
  • Target ID: $02
  • Object ID: $10

This entire object isn't used in the game at all. It is a stationary variant of Lombre that can be cleared with Gust 2. Curiously, it has a Shiny palette as well. Lombre also has unused animations for hiding and jumping out of water. It was likely cut last minute since the area where Lombre can be found already requires several targets to be cleared.

furutaiya

PR1-Obj-FURUTAIYAIdle0.gif PR1-Obj-FURUTAIYAShake0.gif PR1-Obj-FURUTAIYACut0.gif PR1-Obj-FURUTAIYACut1.gif

  • Source label: FURUTAIYA
  • Field move: Cut 2
  • Target ID: $15
  • Object ID: $29

Another completely unused object that was ultimately scrapped. It is a stack of tires that can be cut. There appears to be a Pokémon inside.

hedorodamari_A

PR1-Obj-HEDORODAMARI A.png

  • Source label: HEDORODAMARI_A
  • Field move: Soak 1
  • Target ID: $16
  • Object ID: $07 (used)

The green sludge from Fall City's Waterworks. During gameplay, sludge cannot be targeted and is automatically cleared after capturing the groups of Grimer.

hedorodamari_B

PR1-Obj-HEDORODAMARI B.png

  • Source label: HEDORODAMARI_B
  • Field move: Soak 2
  • Target ID: $17
  • Object ID: $08 (used)

Same as above. This is a medium-sized pool of sludge.

hedorodamari_C

PR1-Obj-HEDORODAMARI C.png

  • Source label: HEDORODAMARI_C
  • Field move: Soak 3
  • Target ID: $18
  • Object ID: $09 (used)

More sludge! The last one of the bunch is a large pool of sludge that can be cleared with - you guessed it right - Soak 3.

sekizou_A

PR1-Obj-SEKIZOU A.png

  • Source label: SEKIZOU_A
  • Field move: Soak 3
  • Target ID: $1B
  • Object ID: $25 (used)

The Water Pedestal from Jungle Relic. The player cannot target this object as it is only seen during cutscenes. In the final game, it is destroyed immediately after the player captures Kingdra. It can be destroyed using Soak 3, which is Kingdra's field move in the final game, implying that players were meant to use Kingdra's power manually.

sekizou_B

PR1-Obj-SEKIZOU B.png

  • Source label: SEKIZOU_B
  • Field move: Crush 3
  • Target ID: $1C
  • Object ID: $26 (used)

Same as above, although this is the Destruction Pedestal. It can be destroyed with Crush 3, which is Salamence's field move.

sekizou_C

PR1-Obj-SEKIZOU C.png

  • Source label: SEKIZOU_C
  • Field move: Gust 3
  • Target ID: $1D
  • Object ID: $27 (used)

The last one of the trio is the Wind Pedestal. It can be cleared with Gust 3, which is Flygon's field move.

kataiki_C

PR1-Obj-kataiki CShake0.gif

  • Source label: MOYASARETAKI_B
  • Field move: Tackle 1
  • Target ID: $29
  • Object ID: $45 (used)

Unlike other trees found in the game, the pine trees found around Sekra Range cannot be targeted. However, valid target data exists for these trees, as well as unused shaking animations.

Unreferenced Objects

These objects have proper parameters defined but they lack a valid entry in the object table. Therefore, their data needs to be referenced in the table in order to load them in the game.

ayaturi_b

PR1-Obj-ayaturi b.png

A destroyed device that was likely intended to appear in Dusk Factory. It serves as the final state for the removed target ayaturi_a after it was destroyed.

bgbarrier_a

PR1-Obj-bgbarrier a.png

Quite an unusual looking barrier... This large jewel or magical blockade does not really fit any of the game's environments, so it's anyone's guess as to where it was meant to be used.

bgbook

PR1-Obj-bgbook.png

A generic book, that's all about it. It appears to be related to the cut novelist NPC.

bgconveyor

PR1-Obj-bgconveyer.gif

A fully animated conveyor belt bearing the design of the machinery found in Dusk Factory.

bgiwark

This turns out to be the decorative variant of Onix before it was removed. It tries to load graphics from pokemon/iwark, however, this file does not exist anymore.

bgrakuseki

PR1-Obj-bgrakuseki.png

A decorative non-target variant of the large boulders found in Krokka Tunnel. It uses a slightly different color palette.

bgseat

PR1-Obj-bgseat.png

This appears to be a blanket with all sorts of tools littered on it.

bgsekigai

PR1-Obj-bgsekigai.gif

A set of laser beams that would have been used as a blockade.

bgtruck

PR1-Obj-bgtruck.png

A truck which fits nicely into Dusk Factory.

hana

PR1-Obj-hana.png

A generic decorative bush with white flowers. It looks very similar to the bushes that hide small grottos behind them in Lyra Forest.

iwa_ato

PR1-Obj-iwa ato.png

A small rock that has been pushed onto several smaller rocks. It is the final state for the removed target iwa after it was pushed.

moyasaretaki

PR1-Obj-moyasaretaki.png

A dead variant of the trees found around Ringtown. Some different-looking dead trees appear on top of Sekra Range.

moyasaretaki_b

PR1-Obj-MOYASARETAKI B.png

Another dead tree based on the palms found in Olive Jungle.

ookinaiwa_ato

PR1-Obj-ookinaiwa ato.png

This appears to be the final state for the removed target ookinaiwa after it was pushed onto smaller rocks.

security_b

PR1-Obj-security b.png

This appears to be the fully deactivated state for the removed object security_a.

Removed Objects

These can be found in unused files inside the yakumono folder and are not referenced by any objects at all. A lot of these have corresponding or similar labels inside the internal source data for target texts, implying that those were removed late into development. Among these are earlier drafts of other objects as well.

ayashiiki

PR1-Obj-AYASHIIKI.png PR1-Obj-AYASHIIKI 2.png

A stationary variant of Sudowoodo, a Gen 2 Pokémon that does not appear in this game at all. Its source data label is AYASHIIKI.

himawarigitai

PR1-Obj-HIMAWARIGITAI.gif PR1-Obj-HIMAWARIGITAI 2.gif

A stationary variant of Sunflora, a Gen 2 Pokémon that does not appear in this game at all. Its source data label is HIMAWARIGITAI.

kinokogitai

PR1-Obj-KINOKOGITAN.png

An unused stationary variant of Paras. Unlike other unused target variants of Pokémon, this one does not have a Shiny palette. Although Paras appears in this game, it does not have any animations related to this object. Its source data label is KINOKOGITAN.

sabotengitai_a

PR1-Obj-SABOTENGITAI A.png PR1-Obj-SABOTENGITAI A 2.png

A stationary variant of Cacnea, a Gen 3 Pokémon that does not appear in this game at all. Its source data label is SABOTENGITAI_A.

sabotengitai_b

PR1-Obj-SABOTENGITAI B.png PR1-Obj-SABOTENGITAI B 2.png

Same as above, although this one is for Cacturne. Its source data label is SABOTENGITAI_B.

hasu

Early Final
PR1-Obj-hasu.png PR1-Obj-hasugitai a.png

An early and non-animated version of Lotad's stationary variant. The final version is found in hasugitai_a.

ookinahanagitai

Palette Early Final
Normal PR1-Obj-ookinahanagitai.png PR1-Obj-ookinahana.png
Shiny PR1-Obj-ookinahanagitai 2.png PR1-Obj-ookinahana 2.png

An early version of Vileplume's stationary target. The final version is found in ookinahana. Curiously, this unused sprite would end up being used in both sequels.

ayaturi_a

PR1-Obj-ayaturi aIdle0.gif PR1-Obj-ayaturi aBreak0.gif

A device used to control Pokémon. It may have been used in Dusk Factory or Go-Rock Base. Data for its destroyed state still exists under ayaturi_b.

bggate

PR1-Obj-bggate a.png PR1-Obj-bggate aAction0.gif PR1-Obj-bggate b.png

A rising street bollard that serves as a blockade. These are two different files suffixed with a and b. bggate_b shows it in its fully retracted state.

denkisaku

PR1-Obj-DENKISAKUIdle0.gif PR1-Obj-DENKISAKUBreak0.gif

Labeled as DENKISAKU in internal source files for target texts. At first glance, it looks like a generic electrical fence that is meant to be destroyed. For some bizarre reason, it also contains sprites for Muk:

Broken Fixed
PR1-Obj-DENKISAKU muk0.gif PR1-Obj-DENKISAKU muk1.gif PR1-Obj-DENKISAKU muk0fixed.gif PR1-Obj-DENKISAKU muk1fixed.gif

As the file does not contain Muk's palette, the sprites appear to be broken. However, this can be fixed by inserting Muk's proper palette. The animation shows what appears to be Muk dropping down from the ceiling and materializing into its default appearance. The second frame showing its back looks unfinished. It is possible that this is one of the oldest development leftovers, as some unused text hints at the fact that some Pokémon were meant to clear very specific targets only.

doronokatamari

PR1-Obj-DORONOKAMARI.png

A mud mound. Presumably a cut target object as it is labeled as DORONOKAMARI in internal target name files.

gasu (GASU)

Palette gasu_z gasu
0 PR1-Obj-gasu z.png PR1-Obj-GASU.png
1 PR1-Obj-gasu z 2.png PR1-Obj-GASU 2.png

A gas cloud that slowly disintegrates. gasu_z is a larger gas cloud that uses gasu's frames for its smaller states.

hokakuami

PR1-Obj-hokakuamiIdle0.gif PR1-Obj-hokakuamiCut0.gif

A trapping device made out of strings or ropes that appears to be cuttable.

hibiwaretakabe_d (HIBIWARETAKABE_D)

Palette Sprites
0 PR1-Obj-HIBIWARETAKABE D.png
1 PR1-Obj-HIBIWARETAKABE D 2.png
2 PR1-Obj-HIBIWARETAKABE D 3.png
3 PR1-Obj-HIBIWARETAKABE D 4.png

A cracked stone wall which would have been used to block cave entrances. The final game uses different objects for this purpose. This one comes with four different palettes.

iwa (IWA)

Palette iwa iwa_l iwa_r
0 PR1-Obj-IWA.png PR1-Obj-iwa l.png PR1-Obj-iwa r.png
1 PR1-Obj-IWA 2.png PR1-Obj-iwa l 2.png PR1-Obj-iwa r 2.png

A generic medium-sized boulder.

ookinaiwa (OOKINAIWA)

Palette ookinaiwa ookinaiwa_l ookinaiwa_r
0 PR1-Obj-OOKINAIWA.png PR1-Obj-ookinaiwa l.png PR1-Obj-ookinaiwa r.png
1 PR1-Obj-OOKINAIWA 2.png PR1-Obj-ookinaiwa l 2.png PR1-Obj-ookinaiwa r 2.png

A large boulder.

moeruiwa (MOERUIWA)

Palette moeruiwa moeruiwa_l moeruiwa_r
0 PR1-Obj-MOERUIWA.png PR1-Obj-moeruiwa l.png PR1-Obj-moeruiwa r.png
2 n/a PR1-Obj-moeruiwa l 2.png PR1-Obj-moeruiwa r 2.png
8 PR1-Obj-MOERUIWA 2.png PR1-Obj-moeruiwa l 3.png PR1-Obj-moeruiwa r 3.png

A burning rock that may have been found in Jungle Relic.

jumpsheet

PR1-Obj-JUMPSHEET.png

According to the name, this must have been a bouncy mushroom. However, there are no animations to support this case. Oddly enough, it is listed as JUMPSHEET among other targets in internal source material. This appears to be a bouncy mushroom.

kaisou

PR1-Obj-KAISOUIdle0.gif PR1-Obj-KAISOUCut0.png PR1-Obj-KAISOUCut1.png

A bunch of thick jungle plants that might have belonged to Olive Jungle's environment. It appears to be a cuttable target. In fact, it is labeled as KAISOU in internal source data for targets.

karetakinohasi

PR1-Obj-karetakinohasi.png

A duplicate of the fallen log bridge found in Olive Jungle.

kibako

Palette kibaku kibaku_l
0 PR1-Obj-kibaku.png PR1-Obj-kibaku l.png
1 PR1-Obj-kibaku 2.png PR1-Obj-kibaku l 2.png

Different variants of the wooden crate seen during the beginning of the game.

kowaseruooiwa

PR1-Obj-kowaseruooiwa.png

A generic boulder with colors not unlike Panula Cave's entrance area. There are no animations so this might not be intended for a target object.

moerukataiki_b (MOERUKATAIKI_B)

Pal. 0 Pal. 4
PR1-Obj-MOERUKATAIKI B.png PR1-Obj-MOERUKATAIKI B 2.png

A burning variant of the palm trees found around Olive Jungle. The graphics also contain a lot of sprites for flames, but they're the same as those of the burning trees in Lyra Forest.

moerukataiki_c (MOERUKATAIKI_C)

Pal. 0 Pal. 2
PR1-Obj-MOERUKATAIKI C.png PR1-Obj-MOERUKATAIKI C 2.png

A burning pine tree, probably meant to be used on Sekra Range. Like above, the file also contains sprites for flames.

ookinarakuseki

PR1-Obj-ookinarakuseki.png

A bland-looking, unfinished boulder that was cut in favor of several other rock obstacles.

otiba

PR1-Obj-OTIBA.png PR1-Obj-OTIBABreak0.gif

A pile of leaves that was most likely meant to be cleared using Gust. It is labeled as OTIBA in source material for target names.

paipu

PR1-Obj-PAIPU.png

A Mario-esque pipe that does not appear to fit into the game at all. Oddly enough, this was meant to be a target since it is labeled as PAIPU in target source data.

security_a

PR1-Obj-security aIdle0.gif PR1-Obj-security aAction0.gif

Some kind of security device that may have been used in Dusk Factory or the Go-Rock Base. Pulling the level would have deactivated the device. Some data for its deactivated state still exist under the name security_b. The label SECURITY can be found inside internal source data for target texts which implies that this must have been some kind of target obstacle.

sekizou_d

PR1-Obj-SEKIZOU D.png

Inside the Jungle Relic are four trial dungeons, but there are only three stone pedestals. The flame chamber is the only dungeon that does not feature a monument because it was destroyed by the Go-Rock Quads before the player approaches them. It is likely that the player was originally supposed to catch and use Charizard's field move without encountering the Quads.

shioretahana

PR1-Obj-shioretahana.png

An earlier version of hana, another cut object. The graphics bear a different style when compared to other plant objects from the game.

supurinkura

PR1-Obj-supurinkura.png

A duplicate of the post that can be grappled by Pokémon such as Bulbasaur or Tangela. The used version is called kui.

tesuri

PR1-Obj-tesuri a.pngPR1-Obj-tesuri b.pngPR1-Obj-tesuri c.pngPR1-Obj-tesuri d.png

Some kind of railing that might have been used as decoration. The presence of this is odd, since this could have easily been used as map tiles instead of separate objects. These are four different files, actually, each suffixed from a to d.

tiisanaki

PR1-Obj-tiisanaki.png PR1-Obj-tiisanakiShake0.gif PR1-Obj-tiisanakiCut0.png PR1-Obj-tiisanakiCut1.png

A small cuttable tree target. It is labeled as TISANAKI in early source material containing target texts. A small cuttable tree or bush.

turibashi

PR1-Obj-turibashi.png

A wooden suspension bridge that may have been part of Olive Jungle.

kowaretaturibashi

PR1-Obj-kowaretaturibashi.png

A broken variant of turibashi.

shuurishitahashi

PR1-Obj-shuurishitahasi.png

The broken suspension bridge after being fixed using huge cobweb, likely spun by Ariados.

tuti

PR1-Obj-TUTI A.png PR1-Obj-TUTI B.png PR1-Obj-TUTI C.png

Soil that has been dug up, presumably related to the unused Dig field move. The different color schemes seem to match Krokka Tunnel, Panula Cave and Panula Cave Entrance, respectively. Interestingly, they are labeled as TUTI_A, TUTI_B and TUTI_C in internal source files for target texts.

Unused Palettes

Like their Pokémon counterparts, some target variants feature unused alternate Shiny palettes.
